I had the same thing happen and was dumbfounded when I was told I had to walk up the street to a UPS box and fill out a form there. I will not be using that "UPS store" again.

Tried to send a package at the "UPS store" on Nassau St. only to be told, "We don't print labels from account numbers, we are a franchise." That makes no sense at all. It was a total inconvenience to this customer who then had to scramble to get the package mailed. It delayed the whole process by a day because I then had to contact the company to have them email me the label to stick on the package. The company rep. was even surprised. So, I will not give my business to this store again. Can't UPS do something about this?

The UPS Stores are not UPS! We do not set the guidelines on your drop off packages.

We do not have access to use UPS account numbers to verify the validity. Therefore UPS needs to inform their customers that your drop off packages need to be boxed, taped and ready to go with the label on it when you take it to a The UPS Store. We can scan it and give you a receipt. That's it!

If the item isn't packed or even taped we have to charge you. UPS does not give us free boxes, tape or other supplies for their customers to drop off. I, as a The UPS Store employee for many years have been cussed out, threatened, called racist and yes, even had packages literally thrown at me under the assumption I was there to supply free boxes, tape and bill to an account number. We are a small business.

Just like a mom and pop store. We would love to help you in any way we can, but these are things we can't do. We are more than a drop off counter for UPS. We notarize, print, bind, laminate, rent mailboxes, pack and ship via mail and UPS (for those of you without acct #).

I understand it's confusing because we have UPS in our name, but we are just a franchise who is controlled by UPS. Me, I enjoy doing what I do because the satisfied and returning customers out weigh my disgruntled drop off customers. I have even turned drop offs into my customers. Support your small businesses folks.

Don't go on a tirade because they are being controlled by a larger parent company. Support the community around you and use the small businesses. You just may like the customer service better knowing actual people there are trying to make a living just like you.

I hope y'all have a wonderful day!

The two previous posts by "Will" and "nanny nanny boo boo" are 100% correct. The UPS Stores are privately owned franchises- not owned by UPS.

So, if the store used your account number they would make absolutely no money at all-yet they would risk getting billed for the shipment if the account owner disputes that charge!

Almost no UPS Stores I've ever heard of accept 3rd party account numbers, so I don't know who would tell you to go to a UPS Store! I'm pretty sure the store is happy you're not going there again, so you won't waste their time!

UPS owns every store, they lease the stores to individuals for 10 years

it is UPS policy that the store can not bill to 3rd party accounts, it is the store operators fault

No, that's all very wrong. My parents have owned a store for 15 years, I've worked there for the past 5 years.

I know everything about how the stores work. UPS owns our corporate office Mail Boxes Etc, the franchiser. So, UPS owns the name "The UPS Store" and the logo- we pay royalties on both. UPS also owns the software we use, we pay a fee on each package we process using the software.

The individuals own everything else, the computers, equipment, and furniture. The contract we sign every 5/10 years has nothing to do with "leasing" the store, it simply states the terms & conditions we abide by and what we pay.

It is up to each store whether we use a 3rd party account #. We CAN use a 3rd party account number, the software is specifically designed to put one it.

But we chose not to because we can't verify it and we would make no money doing it. Our home office wants us to because it is more convenient to UPS's customers.

Guest

Inconvenience you say? Here's the deal, the ups store is a retail location, not a wholesale location.

They have no way of knowing what discount may apply to that account, and as the previous poster noted, would make no money servicing your package.

So they would be performing a service, not be getting paid, be taking a risk on a charge back if the account info is bogus, and their franchise agreement(from ups) specifically forbids them from accepting six digit account numbers.

The people that inconveniences you were the mor0ns who told you to use that number at a retail location.

If you wanted convenience you should have paid the retail price and you could have been done with the whole thing.

Foolish.

Guest

UPS Stores print out labels under their account, and will not ship under a different account number. The main reason for that is that they make literally no money when a package is shipped under another account number.

So, what they'd be doing is providing you a service for free, which no store is going to do and stay in business. If you had gone to a UPS Center, you could have used your own account number no problem, but UPS Stores are completely different; they are individually owned and not operated by UPS, so having a UPS account pretty much means squat to them.

Ups Store - Manager Review from Paradise, Nevada

Retired senior living on govt check. Was sent a sleep disorder test from my dr. Ups delivered it. I took it back to send back with the UPS Sticker provided to the UPS store on east flamingo and Maryland parkway in las Vegas. Laurie the manager very rude said you have to tape box. I said this is exactly how UPS deliveries it. No tape. She said that doesn't matter and she made me pay 3.25 to put two pieces of tape on it. I will never use UPS AGAIN. AND I WILL PASS THE WORD ALONG AS OFTEN AS I CAN

Tape cost money. It is not the stores responsibility to tape your package.

If she accepts your package with no tape and sends it out and the contents get lost then what? You call her saying she was rude for letting it go like that? UPS Stores have pack and ship services that cost money. It is not a volunteer program, it's a business.

Would you take an unsealed envelope to the post office?

The bill your received from the electric company came with a envelope but no tape to seal it. It's clearly up to the post office to do that for you with the logic you have just complained about.

Just an FYI, people are not rude because you disagree with what they say.

Label Tape Charge Review

I was just told UPS charges to tape my labels. I have even going to this store dropping the same box off once a month and they always tape it. The "owner" was very rude and chimed in on my conversation with the employee. Like I didn't ask her opinion.

Poor Ownership

Barrie Caplan Location - Went to pick up my package at the store location as I was not available at time of delivery and they would not release it to me because the shipping address was not my residential address on my driver's licence. I even provided proof of the order and all my documentation to show I am the name on the package. I was told go get my licence changed even though I explained I do not live there. Instead of it being handled properly the owner himself insulted me personally, was extremely rude and told me to leave HIS store in a very demeaning manner. I left in tears... NEVER AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM ANYONE USING UPS TO SHIP OR USE UPS FOR ANYTHING!

If you're going to ship to a UPS Store so you can pick up a package, and you do not have a mailbox there, you need to call ahead. The owner was perfectly within their rights to not let you pick up the package if your ID did not match, because they're only to get maybe a complaint over this, while giving the package to the wrong person could result in a lawsuit.

Also, I'm confused, was this a UPS Store, or the local UPS center?

If you're not around for a delivery, your package goes back to the center, not a UPS Store. You have to specifically have the address changed to a store, and if that's the case, then you should have called first.

Everything will said. Saying ups and ups stores are the same thing is like saying a dog is the same as a wolf.

They are so terrible everywhere. I learned the hard way that they not directly related to USP and have none of the same policies that protect the consumer. Sad decision from UPS.

Ups Store - Notary Service Review

Attempted to get notary service, instead of receiving the policy of proper documentations to be used for notary service, the rude, inconsiderate woman makes you feel like a criminal, and the obnoxious two young guys who 'work' there, insult you and belittles you while walking away. How is this place even still open for business! Irvine is a beautiful city, but with *** like the people working in this UPS store on Alton and Jeffrey, just infest the city with incompetent and inconsiderate individuals. Shame on them!

I have no idea what you said there. What do you mean by "proper documentation?" You come into the store with a legal form you need notarized. All a Notary does is watch you sign the paper, then stamp the paper and sign it.

It's evident that this is a customer service related issue, hence why this person complained.

What I'm pointing out is how she purposely left out why this happened! No one is rude without some kind of provocation.

I concur, nobody is rude unless provoked. But after seeing the reviews for the store that the person complained about, the store has no credibility.

Out of curiosity why does the store have no credibility? Why does the customer have any credibility? It's a poorly written, one-sided, biased review.

Charged a dollar tip fee on a prepaid return item

2 young men at the UPS Store, #0566, 2437 Bay Area Blvd, Houston, Tx 77058 said I had to pay them a dollar tip fee on a prepaid, pre-stickered item I was returning to HSN. They said it was "because they didn't make anything on the item I was returning". At first I thought it was a joke, but the young one kept at it, until I told them I was out of cash which I was, and the older one said to let it go. Prepaid is prepaid! and since when are tips demanded? Obviously this is a scam the two have worked up and the older guy at the next register didn't say anything to them. I have been dealing with this particular store location for over 10 yrs and never been asked for this. I didn't see the normal ladies who work there and never asked for this. The other UPS Store I deal with on Nasa Rd have never asked for this.

prepaid prestickered doesn't necessarily mean pretaped. have your items taped BEFORE drop off and you won't owe a dime. you can certainly offer a gratuity though for the fact that these people are nice enough to take your junk for no compensation.

Guest

If they charge you $1 for tape that is one thing. If the charge you $1 for a tip or to accept the package and you have a receipt showing that contract MBE home office. If you didnt get a receipt ask for one next time and see what they say.

Guest

Were they saying they wanted the $1 for a tip, or was it to tape up your package? Not accusing you, just sometimes we charge a $1 to tape up prepaid packages since the stores don't make anything off of them.

I am going through this same *** right now, god I hope I can get reimbursed. The store mgr/owner whatever immediately refused to admit any wrong doing and is trying to pawn me off on UPS the carrier.

In my case this was a heavy, expensive multitrack tape recording device that I asked them to pack for me. They put zero packing material, only the little scraps I had in the box that I brought in, which they did not use anyway.

The *** clerk was brain dead. I am so pissed.

Guest

From what I can tell with your tracking number it's being investigated. They will send someone to retrieve the package.

Make sure the recipient keeps ALL of the packing that the store used for your package. This will help you and the store get things done faster. Have a copy of the value of the item or a copy of your ebay sale ready, the store will need this. After UPS does their investigation they will notify the store, not you (in most cases).

It can take up to a week from the day they start. On the 29th it seems they may have done inspection. Give the store a call again politely ask them to call UPS to check on the results. Sometime UPS sends an email and we don't get it and don't get a phone call.

Be patient with the store as much as you can. We have to put up with a lot with getting things done for you with claims.

Turns out they don't like handing out money. Good luck.

My mistake, I just notice this was in May. If you haven't got anything yet and the store is refusing to pay out then call the main support line 1 (80*) ***-**** If they packed this then it's their responsibility to take care of you. Explain your situation them.

Miklos Miq

Did you insure it for full value? Did you ever get the refund? Those are two pretty important factors you left out.

Staff member lied to me

I shipped two packages from UPS store 3416 in Clarksville, TN. I wanted them held at a UPS customer center on arrival in Tacoma, WA.

The UPS store employee told me that customers can't go to UPS, only UPS stores. Right! - that's why UPS has customer centers and those have posted hours of opening, isn't it? I was just at the customer service center in Clarksville the week before, but unfortunately I needed to drop off these packages on Saturday, when UPS isn't open.

Hold for pickup is free at UPS customer centers but available for a fee at UPS stores, and that was why she lied about it.

It's fine for UPS store employees to say that they don't know anything about UPS, since UPS stores aren't affiliated with UPS in any way. It is not so fine to lie about the fact that customers can go to UPS service centers.

It's also a possibility that that store has decided that they don't provide that option. When you select "Hold for Pickup," it gives instructions on how to set it up, which is calling UPS and asking for the address of the nearest center to the package's destination. That can be time-consuming, and considering that there is no additional charge for that service, I could understand why a store would be hesitant to provide it.

Guest

Maybe they didn't lie, maybe they just didn't know.

Oh no someone new or uneducated about every possibility gave you the wrong info.

Heaven forbid. That's never happened to every person on the planet at least a dozen times.

Guest

That employee must have been clueless. I have worked for The UPS Store for 7 years and you can def ship to a UPS hub. It's called a "hold for pickup"

Miklos Miq

I'm assuming you misinterpreted what she said. I'm sure what she was trying to say is you can't ship your package DIRECTLY to the UPS Hub in Tacoma, WA. You can ship it to an address in Tacoma, THEN call UPS and schedule to have it ready for pickup at the Hub in Tacoma.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Miklos Miq

There is an option for UPS Stores to send to a UPS Customer Center for pick up. You can choose "Hold for pick up" which will have them hold it at the center closest to the address it's going to.

The center will then call the number on the label (be sure to have a phone number for recipient) and hold it for 5 days before sending it back. You can find this option in the same area as "Declared Value" and such.

Again thnx for all ur comments my belief when u enter any store employees should be glad to have the business and help w out why do client ever walk in attitude !

this store have gotten 7 bad reviews already am not alone !

thnx again for comments i would not be using this store till Owner sees to this matter -- taking to Dep of Civil Rights at this point : they got interested on this issue !! Glad they did

Actually I left was very upset but not rude not in my nature but shipped my boxes there anyways since my clients were waiting for it and i did not had the time to go to another store

i don't think the guy was correct Im taking this matter it to the Owner of the store since store is privately own

simple matter should be solved w out involved of the police thnx for ur comment let Owner decide from here thnx

Sounds like you were extremely rude. I would have asked you to leave too.

And the fact that he had to call the police tells me you were refusing to leave. According to manta.com, this store is owned by a Rita Cheng.

But that record could be outdated. BTW: it 725 River, not 752.

We know who the Owner of the Store is at this point it is actually stated on their website v easy to find. Farther, thnx for all comments, yet comments of her been rude or not rude re wrong because none of u were present unless some of u happen to be the second associate who was there at that time.

Thnx for ur input, yet judging situation with out been present is very difficult. . Story goes he said she said unless there were cameras we won't be able to see a clear picture. My wife is a high professional who demands professional services.

She' ve rights to do so as any other person walking to that store and if those services are not meeting at least basic standards then any complaint as such must be addressed w the Owner of the Store. Associate's must act professionally handling matters calmly professionally not relying on their moods and their own like/ dislike.

That would be totally wrong since it screams clear discrimination and violation of her civil rights. Again thnx.

You sound like a demanding seven year old brat, telling him to do his job correctly and faster when it was you who messed up. Next time get help from an adult so you sent the box to the correct country.

You have no right blaming them for your mistake. If someone tells you how to do your job you would be upset as well(assuming you are not really seven years old and actually have a job). He gets paid to do his job, not take abused from unsupervised children such as yourself. The business hours are usually during school hours.

Why were you not in school?

Most likely you made the mistake judging from your poor spelling and grammar. Your rights were not violated, he has the right to refuse service to a demanding seven year old brat such as yourself.

Been an immigrant have to tell u that ur comment about the spelling was way to … this story could ve happen to anyone including yourself. As of today March 20/14 Cilvil Rights Department of NJ toke this complaint regardless of spelling or misspellings and will be contacting the Owner of this Store.

This store associate clearly mishandle the matter on top of that lied to my wife and police that he is a Store Manager when their website have no such indication. So far as we learn today this guy G have a sensitive personality those type's could not handle any time pressure freaking out of funny situations getting confused blaming other for their faults be that w costumer or just a family member. Suggestion : getting a different job for instance @ mUsical store since music calms the nerves.

UPS headquarters was not happy hearing this story; they toke our complaint and will be following up with the Store Owner They also said that they need to make sure that each of their stores functioning correctly serving their clients on prompt time manners. They're concerned since this store happen to be Edgewater prime location Thnx
